We produced the first influential Creative Vitality Index (CVI) report for the City of Minneapolis showcasing the strength of the region’s arts community in relation to the rest of the U.S.
The Twin Cities metro area is ranked the 6th most creative city in the nation by our Creative Vitality Index (CVI) score, four and a half times the nation’s average. In support of our great, creative city, Azul Seven recently worked in a pro bono capacity with the City of Minneapolis Arts, Culture and Creative Economy program to design the first Minneapolis CVI report. The CVI showcases the Minneapolis arts community in relation to the rest of the United States, along with an in-depth analysis of the area’s creative job sector and case studies of local creative organizations.
Azul Seven designed a print booklet reporting the study’s findings. As a celebration of the creative arts, we chose to design the report as a visually bold, colorful showcase piece to draw in the creatives it describes. We brought the local flair of the Twin Cities into the report through imagery. With a goal of making statistics more beautiful, we visualized data in different ways to give the report a flavor of design, appropriate to its content. The report encompasses a wide range of creative services and careers, so our design refrained from connecting to one type or art or design and instead used a more abstract range of imagery.
Since its release, the CVI report has received widespread local recognition. And of course, it has made us even more proud to be based here in Minnesota.
